“An amazing thing happens when you get honest with yourself and start doing what you love, what makes you happy. Your life literally slows down. You stop wishing for the weekend. You stop merely looking forward to special events. You begin to live in each moment and you start feeling like a human being. You just ride the wave that is life, with this feeling of contentment and joy. You move fluidly, steadily, calm and grateful. A veil is lifted, and a whole new perspective is born.”

In life, I have made a lot mistakes and I have felt a lot of pain, but mistakes make me wiser and pain makes me stronger.

I don’t regret the things I’ve done. I regret the things I didn’t do when I had the chance.

The secret of success: stop wishing, start doing.

Keep calm and focus on the positive.

True friends won’t grow apart, even if they don’t talk everyday.

Surround yourself with the people who make you better, and you will have better outcomes.

Always pray to have eyes that see the best, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the bad, and a soul that never loses faith.

Don’t let people make you feel bad or guilty for living your life. It is your life. Live it the way you want.

“Not all toxic people are cruel and uncaring. Some of them love us dearly. Many of them have good intentions. Most are toxic to our being simply because their needs and way of existing in the world force us to compromise ourselves and our happiness. They aren’t inherently bad people, but they aren’t the right people for us. And as hard as it is, we have to let them go. Life is hard enough without being around people who bring you down, and as much as you care, you can’t destroy yourself for the sake of someone else. You have to make your wellbeing a priority. Whether that means breaking up with someone you care about, loving a family member from a distance, letting go of a friend, or removing yourself from a situation that feels painful — you have every right to leave and create a safer space for yourself.” -Daniell Koepke

“Who the fuck cares where you went to school or where you work? The question is: Is everyday experience good, healthy, beautiful? Because I have to tell you, while it might be cool to work for a company like Google, Apple, or The New Yorker, if your job is stupid, stressful and your boss is an asshole, there is nothing good or prestigious about that. While it might seem right to go to a school like Berkeley, if classes are overcrowded and students are nervous, anxious, religious zealots from Orange County, are you sure you want to go there? What’s good about that? To believe in prestige is to privilege abstract, collective impression over palpable, daily experience. To which I say: fuck prestige. Do what serves your everyday vitality.” -Daniel Coffeen

A real relationship will make it through anything.

Don’t rush and never settle. If it’s meant to be, it will be.

“And kid, you’ve got to love yourself. You’ve got wake up at four in the morning, brew black coffee, and stare at the birds drowning in the darkness of the dawn. You’ve got to sit next to the man at the train station who’s reading your favorite book and start a conversation. You’ve got to come home after a bad day and burn your skin from a shower. Then you’ve got to wash all your sheets until they smell of lemon detergent you bought for four dollars at the local grocery store. You’ve got to stop taking everything so goddam personally. You are not the moon kissing the black sky. You’ve got to compliment someones crooked brows at an art fair and tell them that their eyes remind you of green swimming pools in mid July. You’ve got to stop letting yourself get upset about things that won’t matter in two years. Sleep in on Saturday mornings and wake yourself up early on Sunday. You’ve got to stop worrying about what you’re going to tell her when she finds out. You’ve got to stop over thinking why he stopped caring about you over six months ago. You’ve got to stop asking everyone for their opinions. Fuck it. Love yourself, kiddo. You’ve got to love yourself.”
“Oscar Wilde said that if you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it – that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything. There is a truth to that. We are not nouns, we are verbs. I am not a thing – an actor, a writer – I am a person who does things – I write, I act – and I never know what I am going to do next. I think you can be imprisoned if you think of yourself as a noun.” -Stephen Fry

“I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.” -Helena Bonham Carter

“I want to get more comfortable being uncomfortable. I want to get more confident being uncertain. I don’t want to shrink back just because something isn’t easy. I want to push back, and make more room in the area between I can’t and I can.” -Kristin Armstrong

Forget the past. Remember the lesson. -Mandy Hale

There is something inexpressibly beautiful about the world when the sun begins to rise and fill the dim sky with soft rays of light and only the birds are awake to sing to you “good morning”, while everyone else is curled up in their beds, unaware of the magnificence they’re missing and everything feels so simple. It’s as if six a.m. is an epiphany that sparks at your fingertips and spreads until you are encompassed entirely by a feeling of clarity. There is something inexpressibly beautiful about being awake to behold the splendor of this world while everyone else is still asleep. -Madisen Kuhn

“If you spend your life living in the negative, you do not really live at all. Instead, you remain stuck in time forgetting there is a future. Learn to forgive and forget and move on. Hatred is a strong word and depression can be stopped. Confidence is key. You are the only one that can make yourself depressed. So learn to stop it. Do the things that make you happy and everything you want will surely find you.” -Caitlin Furby

The decision to be positive is not one that disregards or belittles sadness that exists. It is rather a conscious choice to focus on the good and to cultivate happiness – genuine happiness. Happiness is not a limited resource. When we devote our energy and time to trivial matters and choose to stress over things that ultimately are insignificant, from that point, we perpetuate our own sadness and lose sight of the things that really make us happy and rationalize our way out of doing amazing things. -Christopher Aiff

“Don’t let your happiness be controlled by something you can’t control.”

“You are not just waiting in vain. There is a purpose behind every delay.” -Mandy Hale

“Stop comparing where you’re at with where everyone else is. It doesn’t move you farther ahead, improve your situation, or help you find peace. It just feeds your shame, fuels your feelings of inadequacy, and ultimately, it keeps you stuck. The reality is that there is no one correct path in life. Everyone has their own unique journey. A path that’s right for someone else won’t necessarily be a path that’s right for you. And that’s okay. Your journey isn’t right or wrong, or good or bad. It’s just different. Your life isn’t meant to look like anyone else’s because you aren’t like anyone else. You’re a person all your own with a unique set of goals, obstacles, dreams, and needs. So stop comparing, and start living. You may not have ended up where you intended to go. But trust, for once, that you have ended up where you needed to be. Trust that you are in the right place at the right time. Trust that your life is enough. Trust that you are enough.” -Daniell Koepke

“Every end is a new beginning.”

“I’ve been a paperboy, a stripper, a paralegal and barista. At one point I even worked a graveyard shift at a gas station inside a bullet-proof booth, and I’ve made sandwiches at Subway for minimum wage. I’ve managed executive offices from art galleries to software development companies, and prepared burritos at Whole Foods and rotisserie chickens at Costco. I was a photographer for 13 years, a bus-boy at The Cheesecake Factory for three minutes (shortest job I’ve ever had), and spent countless hours in numerous kitchens feeding the hungry. I drafted multi-billion dollar contracts at prestigious law firms for ten years, and made smoothies at Jamba Juice for two. From publishing a book, to cleaning bathrooms or mopping floors, NONE of the things I have done DEFINE me. Does that make sense? Do you see what I mean? What and who I am has absolutely nothing to do with what I have done when I was younger, nor what I’m currently doing. Who I am is not defined by how much or how little money I have, the clothes I wear, or the vehicle I drive wherever I live. I don’t identify myself by those things, which is good because they’re all so temporary.. lol… those aren’t even all the jobs I’ve had (and I’m only 36).. It’s important to have an identity that surpasses a job title on a business card, or a status deemed by the bank or society. What I am, regardless of those things, is an instrument of peace. That is my mission, my purpose.. my Ikigai! If we bring integrity to whatever we do in the world, then we are being of service to others whether we wash dishes in the back of a restaurant, perform complex brain surgeries, manage thousands of employees, drive a bus, fight fires, or raise children at home. Life is not a hierarchy, it’s a celebration! And love is not a word, it’s an invitation. So strive to love who you are. No. Matter. What.” -Timber Hawkeye

“Don’t worry. If it’s supposed to happen, it will.”

“When someone is going through a storm, your silent presence is more powerful than a million empty words.” -Thema Davis

“Maybe the thing you’re most scared of is exactly what you should do.”

“One day you’re going to miss the subway because it’s not going to come. One of these days, it’s going to break down and it’s not going to come around and everyone else will just wait for the next one or will take the bus, or walk, or run to the next station: they will go on with their lives. And you’re not going to be able to go on with your life! You’ll be standing there, in the subway station, staring at the tube. Why? Because you think that everything has to happen perfectly and on time and when you think it’s going to happen! Well guess what! That’s not how things happen! And you’ll be the only one who’s not going to be able to go on with life, just because your subway broke down. So you know what, you’ve got to let go, you’ve got to know that things don’t happen the way you think they’re going to happen, but that’s okay, because there’s always the bus, there’s always the next station…you can always take a cab.” -C. JoyBell C.

People may not realize this, but it’s sadness and despair that sometimes allow a person to grow. Being comfortable with where you’re at often doesn’t motivate you to change or improve your situation. However, being in despair forces you to try to get out of it. That’s why despair is a good thing.

“Know your worth. Know when you have had enough. And move on from the people who keep ruining your happiness.”

Sometimes we stare so long at the wrong things, we miss out on the RIGHT thing standing right in front of us. -Mandy Hale

“My wife got sick. She was constantly nervous because of problems at work, personal life, her failures and children. She lost 30 pounds and weighted about 90 pounds. She got very skinny and was constantly crying. She was not a happy woman. She had suffered from continuing headaches, heart pain and jammed nerves in her back and ribs. She did not sleep well, falling asleep only in the mornings and got tired very quickly during the day. Our relationship was on the verge of a break up. Her beauty was leaving her somewhere, she had bags under her eyes, she was poking her head, and stopped taking care of herself. She refused to shoot the films and rejected any role. I lost hope and thought that we’ll get divorced soon… But then I decided to act. After all I’ve got the most beautiful woman on earth. She is the idol of more than half of men and women on earth, and I was the one allowed to fall asleep next to her and to hug her. I began to shower her with flowers, kisses and compliments. I surprised and pleased her every minute. I gave her a lot of gifts and lived just for her. I spoke in public only about her. I incorporated all themes in her direction. I praised her in front of her own and our mutual friends. You won’t believe it, but she blossomed. She became better. She gained weight, was no longer nervous and loved me even more than ever. I had no clue that she can LOVE that much. And then I realized one thing: the woman is the reflection of her man. If you love her to the point of madness, she will become it.” -Brad Pitt about his wife

I hope your fifties mean going back to school or starting yoga. I hope your forties include falling in love with someone new – a friend, child, or partner. I hope you stay up all night laughing with your friends. And when you’re thirty, learn something new. I hope your life is one of wisdom and youth, adventure and old age – no matter what year it was that you were born. What I really mean to say is that I hope you aren’t held back because of a number. And that you don’t rush into things because it feels like time is slipping by. I hope you do what’s right for you. Hold on. Slow down. And breathe in. Your age is your age. But more importantly, your life is your life. Don’t change your journey so that it matches someone else’s. We need to walk different paths so the whole world can be explored. Revel in the differences. And enjoy where you are. -Jessica

Most people don’t cheat because they’re cheaters. They cheat because they are people. They are driven by hunger or for the experience of someone being hungry once more for them. They find themselves in friendships that take an unintended turn or they seek them out because they’re horny or drunk or damaged from the stuff they didn’t get when they were kids. There is love. There is lust. There is opportunity. There is alcohol. And youth. There is loneliness and boredom and sorrow and weakness and self-destruction and idiocy and arrogance and romance and ego and nostalgia and power and need. There is the compelling temptation of intimacies with someone other than the person with whom one is most intimate. Which is a complicated way of saying, it’s a damn long life. And people get mucked up in it from time to time. Even the people we marry. Even us.
—Cheryl Strayed, tiny beautiful things

It is terrifying to think that one day you will trust somebody enough to let them see you naked. You will undress and remind them that you’ve stretch marks and birth marks and scars from having chicken pox when you were little and scars from all of the other things now. You will blush thousands of shades of red, painting yourself as a rose losing its petals. And that person – that person will take it all in. And I wonder if they will reassure you. But mostly, I wonder if they will even see anything worth reassuring you about. I hope they see each freckle on your back as if it’s a star and you are the whole universe to them. -K.P.K

“There is no designated time for anything in your life. You don’t have to have your first kiss at any certain time, you don’t have to get married in your 20′s and you don’t have to do anything just because other people think it’s best. “Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.”

“The saddest thing about BETRAYAL is that it never comes from your enemies.”

Instead of saying “I don’t have time” try saying “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. Often, that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don’t want to. But other things are harder. Try it: “I’m not going to edit your résumé, sweetie, because it’s not a priority.” “I don’t go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.” If these phrases don’t sit well, that’s the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently.

“For anyone feeling depressed, suicidal, or sad right now. You are under a massive illusion. When we get depressed, it feels like our world is closing in on us. Our vibration lowers and asks crazy limiting thoughts. If you just broke up with someone, the mind literally might trick you and say “There will be no one out there for you. You will never be with anyone again.” That is absolute bull shit. You have met .000001 percent of the people on this planet. You could meet 100 people a day and still not meet hardly anyone here. If you lost your job, your mind could trick you and say, “We are never going to make any money. We are doomed.” This is also an illusion that comes when your mind chooses to go to a state of fear. Your heart has moved to the illusion of fight or flight. If you lose something that you believe was a part of you (even though you are whole as is), your body decides to defend itself. It is using the methods designed for a caveman surviving a tiger attack to take care of this problem. It lost what it thought was a part of itself and now it feels defense. When you feel this lack, your mind has to justify it. Your mind and logic do nothing but try to justify why you feel a certain way. If you feel sad, your mind’s job is to look for reasons you feel that way. It is finding proof for you! Its job is to help you feel right, not happy. (Remember you are defending yourself so it is about winning.) If you feel sad cause you lost someone, your mind will look for a reason to prove it to yourself! No matter how crazy it is, your mind can do it! So it will say to you things like, “You will never have another person again.” to justify it. This is why people who are sad LIST OUT ALL THE REASONS WHY they are sad to the people around them. Their mind is justifying and trying to literally defend staying there. This is why how you feel is all that matters. You can decide how you feel. The problem is most people think that their circumstances decide how they feel. That is not true. YOU decide how you feel, you just give the power to your circumstances. You might read this and now think, “So what do I do then?” Believe it or not, that is actually a fight or flight question too. There is nothing for you to do. Literally just reading this makes you a tiny bit more aware. The next time you are sad and you hear those thoughts coming in, you now know that it is your amazing mind justifying your sadness. It does not mean those thoughts are true. They are an illusion. Observe these thoughts and examine them. Is this really true? Am I under the illusion of fear right now? Now, you are informationally more aware. As you experience this, you will be more aware for real. The more aware you become, the less sad you will be. This is why sadness is actually a good thing. You wouldn’t care about what I am writing if you were already happy. You can use your sadness to explore what is really true and start knocking down the illusions in your life. Congrats on being sad. You wouldn’t be moving forward faster if you weren’t. We need you and your potential awareness. If you suddenly realize you are not those thoughts, and you are the thing observing the thoughts, than who the hell are you?” -Kyle Cease

“Life is a long lesson in humility.”

Let whatever you do today be enough. Let go of the judgement you have about what you should be or could be doing, and today, allow yourself to simply be. Comparing yourself and your journey may be habitual, but it gets you nowhere. It makes you feel worse and it keeps you stuck. So stop fixating on where everyone else is, and start giving yourself permission to be exactly where you are. Quiet the voice telling you to do more and be more, and trust that in this moment, who you are, where you are at, and what you are doing is enough. You will get to where you need to be in your own time. Until then, breathe. Breathe and be patient with yourself and your process. You are doing the best you can to cope and survive amid your struggles, and that’s all you can ask of yourself. It’s enough. You are enough. -Daniell Koepke

“We’re taught to believe that some people are simply born lucky, when in reality, that’s just a convenient excuse to lean back and take it easy, rather than try to apply some control over our destiny. After all, if you aren’t one of the “chosen” ones, what can you possibly do about it? Quite a lot, actually. The fact is, more and more psychologists are finding out that it isn’t the hand you’re dealt that’s important in life but how you play your cards. Let me put it in another way: We’re all capable of making our own luck. What appears to be luck is really the result of perceptions, personality traits, choices and actions. All of that is within your control. People who consider themselves lucky actually tend to be – it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. That’s because positive thinkers are always keeping their eyes peeled for fortunate situations and they’re more likely to grab on them when they arise. So instead of telling yourself: “There’s not a chance in hell that’s going to happen”. Tell yourself: “That looks kind of cool, maybe I should check it out.” -Amanda Oosthuizen

I believe that we are who we choose to be. Nobody is going to come and save you. You’ve got to save yourself. Nobody is going to give you anything; you’ve got to go out and fight for it. Nobody knows what you want except you, and nobody will be as sorry as you if you don’t get it. So, don’t give up on your dreams. -Ash Sweeney

“I’m stronger because of my hard times, wiser because of my mistakes, and happier because of my sad experiences.”

“Let go of the past and the past will let go of you.”

“A lot of us spend our time stuck in regret, wishing our lives had turned out differently, and beating ourselves up for the decisions that have led us to this place. We feel cheated out of a life that could have been something better. We feel angry and sad and disappointed. And most of all, we feel stuck.

In these moments, it’s easy to focus on all of the things that have gone wrong. It’s easy to focus on the loss and the heartbreak and the pain, but it’s also important to remember all of the things that have gone right. It’s important to remember all of the positive experiences and friendships and growth and laughter you’ve gained — things you would have never taken part in, lessons you would have never learned, and people you would have never met had you not veered off the desired path.

The truth is that every time you thought you were missing out on something important, you were given the opportunity to experience something valuable in its own right. Every time life’s obstacles rejected you from something good, you were being redirected to something, or someone, equally wonderful. You may not have ended up where you intended to go, but trust, for once, that you have ended up where you need to be. Trust that you are in the right place at the right time. Trust that every experience has something to offer you. Trust that something that feels like a curse in the moment can blossom into a blessing. Trust that your life is enough. Trust that you are enough.” -DK

“There is something inexpressibly beautiful about the world when the sun begins to rise and fill the dim sky with soft rays of light and only the birds are awake to sing to you “good morning”, while everyone else is curled up in their beds, unaware of the magnificence they’re missing and everything feels so simple. It’s as if six a.m. is an epiphany that sparks at your fingertips and spreads until you are encompassed entirely by a feeling of clarity. But you know what is devastating? Living a life you don’t really want because you never had the guts to live your truth. What I mean by “your truth” is what you know to be what you most want to do. The person or people you most want to love. The things that cut you open and ignite your nerves and can send you over the edge but you keep going back because you know, despite everything, that this is what’s meant for you. If nothing else, the reason to do it is this: the truth inside you will win out eventually. Or it will drive you mad. Your truth isn’t a passing thought or feeling that will just dissipate one day. You won’t get over what’s really meant for you. You will only ever become more and more aware that you’re denying yourself the greatest joy in fear of the possibly greatest disappointment. I can’t believe I’m throwing this quote in here, but I can’t think of anything that sums it up better: “the brave may not live forever, but the cautious don’t live at all.” -Brianna Wiest

I firmly believe in small gestures: pay for their coffee, hold the door for strangers, over tip, smile or try to be kind even when you don’t feel like it, pay compliments, chase the kid’s runaway ball down the sidewalk and throw it back to him, try to be larger than you are— particularly when it’s difficult. People do notice, people appreciate. I appreciate it when it’s done to (for) me. Small gestures can be an effort, or actually go against our grain (“I’m not a big one for paying compliments…”), but the irony is that almost every time you make them, you feel better about yourself. Dream big, work hard, stay focused, and surround yourself with good people.

“You don’t know anyone at the party, so you don’t want to go. You don’t like cottage cheese, so you haven’t eaten it in years. This is your choice, of course, but don’t kid yourself: it’s also the flinch. Your personality is not set in stone. You may think a morning coffee is the most enjoyable thing in the world, but it’s really just a habit. Thirty days without it, and you would be fine. You think you have a soul mate, but in fact you could have had any number of spouses. You would have evolved differently, but been just as happy. You can change what you want about yourself at any time. You see yourself as someone who can’t write or play an instrument, who gives in to temptation or makes bad decisions, but that’s really not you. It’s not ingrained. It’s not your personality. Your personality is something else, something deeper than just preferences, and these details on the surface, you can change anytime you like. If it is useful to do so, you must abandon your identity and start again. Sometimes, it’s the only way. Set fire to your old self. It’s not needed here. It’s too busy shopping, gossiping about others, and watching days go by and asking why you haven’t gotten as far as you’d like. This old self will die and be forgotten by all but family, and replaced by someone who makes a difference. Your new self is not like that. Your new self is the Great Chicago Fire—overwhelming, overpowering, and destroying everything that isn’t necessary.” -Julien Smith, The Flinch

“I really wondered why people were always doing what they didn’t like doing. It seemed like life was a sort of narrowing tunnel. Right when you were born, the tunnel was huge. You could be anything. Then, like, the absolute second after you were born, the tunnel narrowed down to about half that size. You were a boy, and already it was certain you wouldn’t be a mother and it was likely you wouldn’t become a manicurist or a kindergarten teacher. Then you started to grow up and everything you did closed the tunnel in some more. You broke your arm climbing a tree and you ruled out being a baseball pitcher. You failed everyday math test you ever took and you canceled any hope of ever being a scientist. Like that. On and on through the years until you were stuck. You’d become a baker or a librarian or a bartender. Or an accountant. And there you were. I figured that on the day you died, the tunnel would be so narrow, you’d have squeezed yourself in with so many choices, that you just got squashed.” -Carol Rifka Brunt, Tell the Wolves I’m Home

No one is a slut. “Slut” is a made-up word to keep women from having as much fun as men. A person who enjoys sex is just a person and a person who is a virgin is also just a person and everyone should lay off each other’s sex lives. Retire the word “slut” please. -Gabrielle Dunn

I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If you fucking like something, like it. That’s what’s wrong with our generation: that residual punk rock guilt, like, “You’re not supposed to like that. That’s not fucking cool.” Don’t fucking think it’s not cool to like Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” It is cool to like Britney Spears’ “Toxic”! Why the fuck not? Fuck you! That’s who I am, goddamn it! That whole guilty pleasure thing is full of fucking shit. -Dave Grohl

“Most people have more than one soul mate. You may already be in several soul mate relationships with friends and loved ones. A soul mate can come in the form of a life partner, treasured friend, child, or lover. A soul mate can be someone with whom you share a spiritual path, a joint work in the world, or a commitment to be parents to certain souls. It can be someone whose growth you are sponsoring, such as a child.” -Sanaya Roman

“Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again. And what do we teach our children? We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel? You must work, we must all work, to make the world worthy of its children.”

“Sometimes when we’re feeling sad, it’s important just to feel the sadness. Like a snake shedding its skin, old feelings of remorse and regret and hurt and anger often have to come up in order to be released. When adults say, “Teenagers think they are invincible” with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don’t know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they get old. They get scared of losing and failing. But that part of us greater than the sum of our parts cannot begin and cannot end, and so it cannot fail. -John Green, Looking For Alaska

“If you want to change something about yourself, whether it is your hair color, your makeup, or your nose, I support you. If you do not, then I support you in that. I urge you to do exactly what you want to do to make yourself feel beautiful. And I’m not talking about beauty according to magazine standards or Hollywood standards, but your standards. Look it’s your life, why should other people dictate how you look? Why should their opinions make you feel negatively about your appearance? If you want to eat that cookie, do it, it isn’t hurting anyone else, but it is making you happy. If you don’t want to shave your armpits, don’t. You only have the single life, living it according to someone elses’ standards would be a terrible waste of it.”

“Right now I want a word that describes the feeling that you get — a cold sick feeling, deep down inside — when you know something is happening that will change you, and you don’t want it to, but you can’t stop it. That way.’ But what if you get there, you get exactly what you wanted, like some people do, except all the things that were wrong, are still wrong. Then what?” -Party of Five

They never ask if that plan is theirs or if it was created by another person. They accumulate experiences, memories, things, other people’s ideas, and it is more than they can possibly cope with. And that is why they forget their dreams.” -Paulo Coelho

If someone wants you in their life, they’ll find a way to put you there. Sometimes you just need to let go and accept the fact that they don’t care for you the way you care for them. Let them leave your life quietly. Letting go is often times easier than holding on. We think it’s too hard to let go, until we actually do. Then we ask ourselves, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”

The Sound of the Sea

May I see the things in front of me as they are, not as I think them to be.

May I walk the steps ahead of me one at a time, not wondering if there’s a map.

May I say the things that fix things, not break them further apart.

May I do what I need to do, not be distracted by what I can’t.

May I dream of what I hope for, not of what I fear.

May I love you like I love you, not as any other, me.

I thank the universe for bringing such an honest, loving light to my life, but the light is dim now. It’s certainly not honest nor is it loving: and it is so painful to feel, on the shallow face of it all, but these people are meant to love us and leave. Your time here is done.” -DK

Tell me about a day in your life you didn’t think you’d live through. Tell me what the word “home” means to you and tell me in a way that I’ll know your mother’s name just by the way you describe your bed room when you were 8. See, I wanna know the first time you felt the weight of hate and if that day still trembles beneath your bones. Do you prefer to play in puddles of rain or bounce in the bellies of snow? And if you were to build a snowman, would you rip two branches from a tree to build your snowman arms? Or would you leave the snowman armless for the sake of being harmless to the tree? And if you would, would you notice how that tree weeps for you because your snowman has no arms to hug you every time you kiss him on the cheek? Do you kiss your friends on the cheek? Do you sleep beside them when they’re sad, even if it makes your lover mad? Do you think that anger is a sincere emotion or just the timid motion of a fragile heart trying to beat away its pain? See, I wanna know what you think of your first name. And if you often lie awake at night and imagine your mother’s joy when she spoke it for the very first time. I want you tell me all the ways you’ve been unkind. Tell me all the ways you’ve been cruel. See, I wanna know more than what you do for a living. I wanna know how much of your life you spend just giving. And if you love yourself enough to also receive sometimes. I wanna know if you bleed sometimes through other people’s wounds.” -Andrea Gibson

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”

“If you cannot get along with yourself, you’ll never be able to get along with other people.” -Joel Osteen

“We lose the people we love because they are meant to love someone else. We lose them because we are destined to find somebody else. It is a simple fact that is sometimes hard to accept because we are too stubborn to let go of something that doesnt belong to us, even if it seems like it.”

“Pain can change you, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a bad change. Take that pain and turn it into wisdom.”

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering -these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love -these are what we stay alive for.” -Dead Poets Society

The years go by. The time, it does fly. Every single second is a moment in time that passes. And it seems like nothing — but when you’re looking back … well, it amounts to everything. -Ray Bradbury

“People who have only good experiences aren’t very interesting. They may be content, and happy after a fashion, but they aren’t very deep. It may seem a misfortune now, and it makes things difficult, but well—it’s easy to feel all the happy, simple stuff. Not that happiness is necessarily simple. But I don’t think you’re going to have a life like that, and I think you’ll be the better for it. The difficult thing is to not be overwhelmed by the bad patches. You must not let them defeat you. You must see them as a gift—a cruel gift, but a gift nonetheless.” -Peter Cameron

“Don’t ever say you’re not good enough. If that person can’t see how amazing you are, then they’re the one who’s not good enough for you.”

“It is okay to want your own happiness. It’s okay to care about yourself the most. You are not obligated to sit there and smile and swallow every bit of shit everyone heaps on you. You are more than furniture, you’re more than window dressing, you’re not their shiny toy. You’re human, and you have the right to say “That was shitty of you”. You have a right to protest your own mistreatment and set boundaries for respectful interactions. The rest of the world doesn’t realize you have this right, and they will act offended and appalled when you exercise it, but it is yours.”

“Be selective in your battles, sometimes peace is better than being right.”

“Focus on your blessings, not your misfortunes. Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses. Relax and let life come to

Nick June 16, 2012 at 9:02 am

Hi,
I’m currently facing a huge problem in my life. My gf just broke up with me the day before saying that she had lost feelings for me and it had been already a month. When i asked her what made her liked me before, she told me that if i were to ask her that question in the past, she could answer me but right now she just cant see it anymore and that the feeling is just gone. But she said that during that time she was trying to see if she would be able to gain back the feelings and was waiting to see if God would give her any signs that she should move on or stayed together with me. She also told me that she got really tired somewhere along the relationship and just couldnt hold on anymore. When she first told me that she wanted to break up, i begged for a week to be apart so that we could spend less time going out with each other in case if us going out together every single day has been the cause of this. However, after the two days of no contact with her, she told me that she felt so happy and free during that time that i wasnt with her and that all this time she felt smothered and suffocated, like she was drowning, but now she felt so free and happy. She told me that i’m a nice guy and that she liked me the most among all her ex’s but she said that the thing is that i’m just not the guy for her. She even told me to let go of her and move on and also to open my ‘windows’ for others to come in my life because she will not wait for me. I feel that part of the reason of her not being able to hold on anymore was cause of the fact that i have been restricting her too much and have been way over protective in every sense of the way. It’s been two days now since the breakup and i cant stop thinking of the moments that we spent with each other and if she even misses me. I really want to get back to her and start anew but the thing is that she said that she doesnt want it anymore during that day when i pleaded for a second chance during the breakup. What am i supposed to do now? And how do i change myself in this aspect of being over protective and possessive? What do you think the chances are for her to ever regain back her feelings for me in my current situation?
I need help !

korntaft June 19, 2012 at 2:17 pm

JUST WAKE UP DUDE!
Don’t waste your time for people who don’t care about you because you’ll need a lot of time to think people who care about you!

prince mhango June 20, 2012 at 9:14 am

Nick,,just leave her,,there is alot girls out here,,,stay simple en u wanna find one who fits U

Sandeep June 21, 2012 at 12:28 pm

Nick, the same situation is with me, but we didn’t break up yet..i get anxious all the time coz of her..we live in different countries and she is bit open minded..i restrict her from doing things which she likes that i feel are wrong as we are from a different culture..I can understand your problem very well as I am facing the same in my life…i dnt know either what to do..please help me as well..

DonsDaughter June 24, 2012 at 6:34 am

I think you should let her go for now. She made her decision and if you really care about her you should respect that decision. Give yourself some time to think and to heal. Now, if in a few months you still got this feelings for her, you can perhaps ask her out again. And if you’d be lucky to be given a second chance, show her that you trust her. A mature relationship is based on love, trust and respect. Show her that your hiatus did you some good. Perhaps, she will see again, what she liked about you before.

That is why i’ll always respected those soul of purposeful extacy of love. Not for a single person. But for all life. for songs, for the ground, and the stars. because people love with such strenght. they may well get hurt agian and again. but i respect those to whom suffering is a friend . who has no regret, who do not lose their courage. who even if the night falls heavily upon them. can still raise a glass for both joys and great pains of love.

bick July 3, 2012 at 5:14 am

Brother it is time to realize that the higher you fly the harder the crash. Take some time to write down what was the best part of the time you spent with her. if it is only sex then dont worry be happy. but keep track for the future when you are olde. It is hard to believe but you will move on. Treasure this pain and write a song. This is truly what being alive means. Remember you and her did nothing wrong. You are both growing up. I know this sounds morbid, but enjoy the pain. P>S> you dont need help. you are a healthy loving feeling soul

Sheidz July 4, 2012 at 4:26 pm
